In fact, many of our Invisalign® patients are adults who either didn’t have orthodontic treatment when they were younger or whose teeth have shifted over time. One of Invisalign®’s conveniences is that it requires fewer appointments than traditional braces. You’ll typically visit us every 6-8 weeks to check your progress and collect your next sets of aligners. Once your teeth have reached their final position, you’ll need to wear retainers to maintain your results. We’ll take new impressions for your custom retainers and provide clear guidance on how often to wear them. In some complex cases, traditional braces might be more appropriate, and we’ll always provide honest, professional advice about the best treatment option for your situation.

Most patients adapt to speaking with aligners very quickly, usually within a day or two. You might notice a very slight difference initially, but this typically disappears as you get used to wearing them. Because the aligners are so thin and fit snugly against your teeth, they cause far less speech interference than traditional braces. Many patients report that after the brief adjustment period, they forget they’re even wearing them when talking.

If you lose or damage an aligner, contact us straight away. Depending on where you are in your treatment, we might advise you to move to your next aligner, go back to the previous one, or order a replacement. This is why it’s important to keep your previous set of aligners until you’ve successfully moved on to the next stage. While replacements can be ordered, there may be a delay and additional cost, so taking good care of your aligners and keeping them in their case when not wearing them is essential.

We strongly advise against smoking or vaping while wearing your aligners, as this can stain and damage the clear plastic, making them visible and potentially affecting their fit. If you smoke or vape, you should remove your aligners first—though this will reduce your daily wear time and potentially slow your treatment progress.
