We’re Here When You Need Us Most
Dental pain has a habit of striking at the worst possible moment — and when it does, it can take over completely. Whether it’s an agonising toothache that’s kept you up all night, a tooth knocked out in an accident, or a lost crown that’s left you feeling exposed and self-conscious, the last thing you need is to be told to wait.
At Helen’s Bay Dental Practice, we keep appointments available for patients in pain. Our experienced team will see you as quickly as possible, assess what’s happening, relieve your discomfort, and put a clear plan in place — all in the warm, familiar surroundings that our patients have trusted for over three decades.
What Is a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation that causes significant pain, discomfort, or risk to your oral health and shouldn’t be left to worsen. If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, the simplest rule is this: if it hurts, if something is broken, or if something doesn’t look or feel right — call us.
Common dental emergencies we treat include:
- Severe or persistent toothache
- Dental abscess or facial swelling
- A knocked-out or partially dislodged tooth
- A broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
- A lost or damaged filling or crown
- Bleeding from the mouth or gums that won’t settle
- A broken or uncomfortable denture
- Mouth injuries following an accident or trauma
Even if your pain seems to come and go, it’s important not to ignore it. Dental problems rarely resolve on their own, and early treatment almost always means simpler, less costly care.

On the 1/12/25 I was nervous and apprehensive as I was beginning my dental implant journey. I didn’t know what to expect but I needn’t have worried as the dentist, Edward, and dental nurses, Beata and Alison, put me at ease immediately. Before I knew it, my teeth were out and my posts were in. I felt no pain and was supported through it all. A few hours later my temporary implant arch was fitted and already I could smile with confidence. They are a wonderful team and everyone I have been in contact with has been pleasant, helpful, and supportive. Just another few weeks and I will have my permanent implants. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. I would 100% recommend Helens Bay Dental to anyone who is still thinking about taking the first step towards implants. Thank you to everyone in this amazing dental practice. I am counting down the days to my permanent teeth. Today I got my permanent teeth and I am absolutely delighted and as always the care was 5-star. Thanks to everyone.READ MORE

Staff are always very friendly, helpful, and efficient and the practice is very impressively equipped technically, including photographic modelling and ‘while you wait’ crown machining. Over the years I have had a range of procedures from crowns to whitening and have always been very pleased with the results.READ MORE
Helens Bay Dental Practice is excellent and is how all dental practices should be run. All members of staff are really welcoming and make you feel at ease from the start. Sarah, my dentist, is very professional and explained everything to me in great detail and I am delighted with my treatment so far; also Lorraine, who is an excellent hygienist.READ MORE
From the surroundings to the staff, Helens Bay Dental Practice provides a superb experience from start to finish. Extremely friendly, professional, and a pleasant environment to be in. They have invested heavily in the latest and most up-to-date equipment, which makes for more relaxing and less stressful dentist visits. I’m delighted with the service I have received over the past year, from implant surgery to fillings. If you are nervous about the dentist, this place will really make you feel at ease. I’ve never felt any pain during any of my treatments. When my next appointment comes around, I don’t feel anxious or nervous like I have in the past with other dentists. I’d recommend their services to anyone without hesitation.READ MORE
