Because Every Smile Deserves a Second Chance

Missing teeth don’t just affect how your smile looks — they can knock your confidence, change how you speak and eat, and take a toll on your overall oral health.

As realistic and comfortable as modern dentures are, you may also feel their limitations.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Dental implants are the gold standard for restoring your smile with lasting strength, comfort, and natural aesthetics. Unlike other ways to rebuild your smile, implants replace the entire tooth from crown to root.

If you’re looking for a long-term solution that feels and functions just like your own teeth, implants are the answer. Helen’s Bay Dental Practice is a dental implant centre of excellence, so your smile is in the best hands.

Dental Implants: Perfect if You…

Have a missing a tooth or several missing teeth

Are conscious of a gap when you smile

Have a loose denture you’d like to replace with fixed teeth

Find yourself avoiding foods because chewing is difficult

A Strong Foundation For a Healthier Smile

Dental implants are small titanium posts placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Over time, your jaw and implant will fuse to create a solid foundation.

Once securely in place, we’ll attach a beautifully crafted, lifelike crown that blends perfectly with your natural teeth.

Are Dental Implants for Me?

Dental implants are perfect if you have a missing or failing tooth. Although they can benefit anyone, we’ll ensure implants are right for you.

During your initial consultation, we’ll determine whether your jaw is strong enough to support implants. Gaps in your smile and advanced gum disease can cause bone loss in your jaw.

In addition to good jaw health, we need to consider how quickly you’ll recover from your implant surgery. Some health concerns, along with lifestyle factors like whether you’re a smoker, could affect the healing process.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

A Natural-Looking Smile

The crowns placed on top of dental implants are expertly colour-matched and shaped to blend in seamlessly with your existing teeth. They look and feel completely natural — nobody will know they’re not your own.

The Freedom to Eat What You Love

Implants restore full biting and chewing power, so there’s no need for your favourite meals to become a distant memory. Whether it’s a crusty loaf, a steak, or a crunchy apple, you can enjoy your meals without a second thought.

Confidence in Every Moment

No slipping, shifting, or self-conscious moments. Just like healthy, natural teeth, your new dental implants will stay securely in place, allowing you to laugh, talk, and smile without a second thought.

A Long-Term Investment in Your Oral Health

Implants stimulate the jawbone just like natural tooth roots, preventing bone loss and preserving facial structure. They also help protect surrounding teeth by filling gaps that could otherwise cause dental drift.

Built to Last

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. They’re made from durable, biocompatible materials that integrate naturally with your body and stand the test of time. Our supportive team can give you advice and support to ensure your new smile lasts.

Compassion and Precision

We care about your experience. Our supportive team will do everything possible to make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Your procedure will use the latest technology and techniques for the best outcomes and a positive experience.

Your Implant FAQs

Most people with good general health and sufficient jawbone to support an implant are suitable candidates. During your consultation, we’ll assess your oral health, bone density, and medical history to determine if implants are right for you. Even if you’ve been told you’re not suitable elsewhere, we encourage you to see us for a second opinion—our experienced team finds solutions for 99% of challenging cases.

From start to finish, the complete process typically takes 3-6 months. This includes the initial implant placement, a healing period of 8-12 weeks for osseointegration (where the implant fuses with your jawbone), and finally fitting your permanent crown. However, you won’t be without a tooth during this time—we can provide a temporary restoration so your smile remains complete throughout treatment.

The implant placement is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the treatment is. Afterwards, you may experience some mild tenderness or swelling, similar to having a tooth extraction, which typically resolves within a few days and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. We’re always available to address any concerns during your recovery.

Dental implants have an excellent success rate of over 95% when placed by experienced practitioners. At Helen’s Bay Dental Practice, we’ve been providing implant treatments for over 25 years, giving us the expertise to achieve consistently successful outcomes. Factors such as good oral hygiene, regular check-ups, and following aftercare instructions all contribute to long-term success.

A single tooth implant with crown starts from £2,900. The exact cost depends on your individual case and any additional procedures required, such as bone grafting. During your consultation (£95), we’ll provide a detailed treatment plan with transparent pricing. We also offer flexible finance options, including interest-free payment plans through our specialist partner Chrysalis Finance, to help make implants more accessible.

Unlike bridges, which require grinding down healthy adjacent teeth for support, implants are standalone solutions that don’t affect neighbouring teeth. Compared to dentures, implants are permanently fixed, won’t slip or move, and feel just like natural teeth. Implants also prevent the bone loss that occurs with dentures, helping maintain your facial structure and preventing that sunken appearance that can develop over time.

With proper care and regular dental check-ups, dental implants can last a lifetime. The titanium post becomes permanently integrated with your jawbone, creating a stable foundation. While the crown on top may eventually need replacing after 10-15 years due to normal wear, the implant itself is designed to be a permanent solution. This makes implants one of the most cost-effective long-term investments in your oral health.

Insufficient bone doesn’t necessarily rule out implant treatment. We offer bone grafting procedures to build up the jawbone where needed, creating a solid foundation for your implant. During your consultation, we’ll take a CT scan (£125) to assess your bone structure and discuss the best approach for your case. Many patients who thought implants weren’t possible are delighted to discover they have options.

Absolutely. If you’re missing several teeth, we can use implants to support bridges or individual crowns, depending on your situation. Multiple implants can be more cost-effective than replacing each tooth individually, and we’ll discuss the most suitable approach during your consultation. For patients missing most or all teeth, our All-on-4 same-day teeth solution might be ideal.

Caring for your implant is simple—treat it just like your natural teeth. Brush twice daily, floss regularly, and attend routine check-ups and hygiene appointments. While implants can’t develop cavities, it’s essential to maintain healthy gums to support the implant long-term. Our team will provide detailed care instructions and recommend any specific cleaning tools that might help.

Your implant crown will be carefully crafted in our boutique in-house laboratory to match the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth perfectly. Nobody will be able to tell the difference between your implant and your real teeth—it will blend seamlessly into your smile. We take great care to ensure your restoration not only functions beautifully but looks completely natural too.

After administering local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort, we’ll carefully place the titanium implant post into your jawbone using precise, minimally invasive techniques. The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours per implant. Afterwards, we’ll fit a temporary restoration if needed, and you’ll be able to go home the same day. We’ll provide comprehensive aftercare instructions and schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing.

Most patients take 1-2 days off work following implant placement, though this depends on your role and how you feel. If your job is physically demanding, you may want to allow a few extra days for rest. Many patients find they can return to desk-based work the next day. We’ll discuss your individual circumstances and provide guidance on when it’s safe to resume normal activities.

Once your implant has fully integrated and your permanent crown is fitted, you’ll be able to eat all your favourite foods without restriction. During the initial healing period, we recommend sticking to softer foods, but this is only temporary. After treatment is complete, your implant will provide up to 90% of the chewing power of a natural tooth—so you can enjoy everything from crunchy apples to crusty bread without worry.

We completely understand dental anxiety, and our team is experienced in helping nervous patients feel calm and comfortable. We offer sedation options to help you relax during treatment, and we’ll always work at your pace. Many anxious patients tell us they wish they’d come to see us sooner. Your comfort and wellbeing are our priorities, and we’ll do everything we can to make your experience positive.

We were one of Northern Ireland’s first practices to offer dental implant technology and have over 25 years of experience with implant procedures. Our unique advantage is our boutique in-house laboratory, which allows us to provide faster treatment times and exceptional quality control. As a recognised centre of excellence for dental implants, we’ve successfully restored thousands of smiles and help 99% of patients who’ve been told implants weren’t possible elsewhere. You’re in experienced, caring hands with our family-led team.

A crown is the visible tooth-like restoration that sits on top of either a natural tooth or an implant. A dental implant is the titanium post that replaces the missing tooth root and sits in your jawbone. When you receive an implant treatment, you get both—the implant post that integrates with your bone, and the crown that’s visible in your mouth. Together, they replace the entire tooth structure from root to crown.

While dental implants have an excellent success rate, complications can occasionally occur, usually due to infection, insufficient bone integration, or inadequate oral hygiene. The risk of failure is significantly reduced when implants are placed by experienced practitioners and patients follow proper aftercare. At Helen’s Bay, we monitor your implants closely during regular check-ups to identify and address any potential issues early. Should any problems arise, we’re here to help resolve them.
