Staff are always very friendly, helpful, and efficient and the practice is very impressively equipped technically, including photographic modelling and ‘while you wait’ crown machining. Over the years I have had a range of procedures from crowns to whitening and have always been very pleased with the results.

Complete Your Smile in One Visit

A broken, decayed or missing tooth can make you feel ashamed to smile, laugh, and even speak. But it doesn’t end there. Your ability to bite and chew may also be impacted, and you may also face an increased risk of further oral health issues.

Whether you need to restore a weakened tooth or replace one that’s been lost, crowns and bridges offer a beautifully natural solution.

At Helen’s Bay Dental Practice, we’re proud to place beautiful, custom-made same-visit crowns, crafted in our very own in-house laboratory.

These restorations are designed with precision, strength, and aesthetics in mind — so you can smile, speak and eat with complete ease again.

Crowns and Bridges Explained

Crowns are custom-made caps that fit over the top of a damaged or weakened tooth. They restore shape, size, strength, and appearance, giving the tooth a completely new lease of life. We can also use crowns to complete single-tooth dental implant restorations.

Bridges consist of one or more replacement teeth (known as pontics) held in place by crowns on the adjacent teeth or supported by dental implants. They quite literally “bridge the gap” in your smile.

We craft both restorations to match the colour, shape, and proportions of your natural teeth—so they don’t just restore your bite, they restore your confidence, too.

Why Teeth Need Restoring

Teeth can become damaged for many reasons—decay, injury, wear, or as part of age-related changes. Sometimes, damage affects the structure of a tooth without completely destroying it. In these cases, a crown can save and protect the remaining healthy tooth.

When a tooth is missing altogether, a bridge can replace it. Not only does this restore your smile, but it also prevents your surrounding teeth from shifting into the gap, a process known as dental drift. Left untreated, this can affect your bite and lead to future complications.

You may need a crown or bridge to:

  • Rebuild a broken or worn-down tooth
  • Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Support a tooth with a large filling
  • Improve the appearance of a damaged tooth
  • Replace one or more missing teeth
  • Restore bite strength and chewing function
  • Prevent dental drift and preserve alignment

Whatever your reason, the outcome is the same: a smile that looks natural, feels strong, and helps you live with confidence.

Types of Dental Crowns

Not all crowns are the same. The best type for you will depend on which tooth we’re restoring and your goals for appearance and durability.

Porcelain Crowns

Beautiful and natural-looking, porcelain crowns are colour-matched to blend seamlessly with your smile. They’re ideal for front teeth or any visible areas where aesthetics are key.

Ceramic Crowns

Made from advanced materials like zirconia, ceramic crowns are metal-free, exceptionally strong, and ideal for patients with metal sensitivities. They offer excellent durability and biocompatibility while maintaining a natural appearance throughout the mouth.

What To Expect From Your Crown Placement

We begin with an assessment to check the health of your tooth and the surrounding gum. We’ll discuss the best material based on your needs and preferences.

To fit a crown, we gently shape the existing tooth to allow space for the crown to sit comfortably and securely. Our in-house laboratory will then create a bespoke crown to match your teeth in terms of colour, shape, and texture.

Once your custom crown is ready, we’ll bond it into position and make any final adjustments to ensure it fits and feels natural. The entire process is quick, and you can leave with a restored smile the same day.

Placing Your Dental Bridge

We’ll start by examining your mouth, taking digital scans or X-rays, and determining which type of bridge suits your smile and needs. If teeth on either side of the gap are healthy, a traditional or cantilever bridge may be suitable. If they’re not, we may recommend implants to support the bridge.

For traditional or cantilever bridges, the supporting teeth are gently reshaped to allow crowns to be placed. If we’re using a Maryland bridge, no reshaping may be needed — just a light surface etch.

We’ll then take impressions for our laboratory to create your custom bridge. Our skilled team will then produce a bridge that seamlessly blends with your smile. Once your bridge is ready, we’ll ensure the fit, bite, and appearance are perfect before bonding it securely in place.

Why Choose Crowns and Bridges?

A Complete and Natural Smile

We match every detail of your restoration to your smile. Once placed, your crown or bridge will blend in, restoring your smile’s natural balance. Bridges or crowns are so comfortable, they feel like they’re meant to be there. You can enjoy renewed confidence without a second thought.

A Strong and Functional Bite

Missing and damaged teeth can lead to compromises over your diet. With crowns and bridges, you can bite and chew without hesitation. No more favouring one side of your mouth or avoiding certain foods.

A Healthy and Protected Smile

When a tooth is damaged, further health issues can quickly follow. A crown can shield a vulnerable tooth from further damage. And by replacing missing teeth, bridges help prevent bone loss, dental drift, and misalignment.

A Wise and Lasting Investment

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, crowns and bridges can last many years, providing ongoing support for your smile. Once placed, we’ll help you enjoy your restored smile for years to come by giving you the tools to care for your teeth.

A Precise and Painless Procedure

Having damaged and missing teeth gives you enough to worry about, without thinking about the procedure to restore them. We use the latest technology coupled with advanced treatment techniques to deliver the best results, without pain or stress.

A Same-Visit Restoration

Our highly-skilled in-house laboratory team will produce natural-looking crowns so we can place them the same day, without compromising on appearance and quality. You’ll love the results, and how quickly you can enjoy the benefits.

No ‘Temps’, Delays or Moulds

Our digital workflow eliminates uncomfortable traditional impressions, temporary crowns, and weeks of waiting for external labs. With precise intraoral scanning and our in-house laboratory, we create your permanent restoration quickly and comfortably in one visit.
